Breaking in an outboard takes 10 hours. This is where you will get to know your Suzuki, you will never have to look back, because you will know that she is behind you all the way.

Why Is The Break-In Period Important?

• Breaking in your outboard ensures that you get the maximum lifespan and performance out of your outboard motor.
• Breaking in the outboard allows engine components to settle in during this process without overstressing.
• You need to break your outboard in to maintain the warranty

Your owner’s manual contains full break-in procedures. This article offers a practical summary to get you started confidently.

10-Hour Break-In Procedure: What You Need to Know

Hours 1–2: Start Slow

The first two hours are very important, let your outboard warm up for 5 minutes then idle it at the lowest gear speed for 15 minutes. From here you can operate it, staying at 3 000rpm or less, for the remaining time. You may occasionally exceed 3 000rpm when getting on the plane but ensure that this is not exceeded too much and that the outboard is warm before attempting to increase the rpms.

Hour 3: Increase RPM

Now in the third hour of operation, you can operate your outboard motor at 4 000rpms. At this stage you should still avoid running the outboard at full throttle.

Hours 4–10: Gentle Progression

At this stage, you can operate your outboard at the desired speed. You can occasionally proceed to full throttle if the outboard is warm, but this should not be exceeded by 5 minutes at a time.

During this time, you will also get a good feel of how your boat handles in general and at the different speeds.

To get a more accurate indication, it is advised to have your boat loaded as it will be during normal operation. For example: If the boat will be used for fishing, load your tackle and gear as this will add more weight to the vessel. This may include filling your live well to see what the impact of the extra weight will be.

Use premium fuel when running in your outboard to ensure a more efficient and consistent operational engine temperature.

Here are some things to keep in mind that will make your boating experience more enjoyable.

Register your Suzuki Outboard  

When you purchase your Suzuki outboard through one of the Suzuki Marine Authorized dealers, your dealer registers the outboard as sold to the customer on the Suzuki system. This only happens when the client gives consent to upload the client’s details on the Suzuki database keeping in mind POPI compliance. The aim for Suzuki to have your contact details online is, not to spam you, but in case there is a product recall, Suzuki can easily contact the relevant product owners.

5 Years after it first started production – launching as an award-winning outboard – Suzuki’s flagship DF350A outboard gets a brand-new range addition in the new Suzuki DF350AMD.

It features 3 key feature updates you’ll want to know about. And what’s pretty cool about it, is that Suzuki focused 100% on solving a few practical concerns with the new addition.

WHAT’S NEW ON THE SUZUKI DF350AMD

Suzuki put their engineering heads towards improving a key installation concern with the new DF350AMD. See, on some boat types, installing the DF350 requires you to use an external steering cylinder on the motor well to control the steering axis.

And, in many such cases, if you had any trouble, it’s usually this external sterling cylinder that caused it.

So Suzuki set out to provide an elegant new solution with an all-new Suzuki Integrated Steering System. Plus: Used the opportunity to update the gear case and eke some extra performance out of the engine – because, why not?

Here’s what’s new and improved on the Suzuki DF350AMD.

1 NEW INTEGRATED STEERING SYSTEM

With the conventional external steering cylinder setup (left), you have an additional (often third-party) hydraulic system impacting your steering. Which just leaves room for things to go wrong.

So, Suzuki introduces the all-new Integrated Steering System (right), which incorporates your steering axis and control internally in the new Suzuki DF350AMD. Giving you better, more reliable steering, control and operation.

2 ALL-NEW ADVANCED GEAR CASE

And what better time to update the gear case a bit? 

The DF350AMD features a new oil circulation mechanism that lowers the oil temperature and reduces the amount of oil needed to operate the engine.

Instead of using 3.2 Litres of oil, the DF350AMD uses only 2.8 Litres.

And internal tests show not only better durability and reliability, but also 2% better performance.

PLUS: The new gear case also makes maintenance easier, because you n longer need to lift the boat when changing oil – bonus!

3 SAME CRAFTSMANSHIP AND QUALITY

Not everything needs to be updated. The new Suzuki DF350AMD will feature the same craftsmanship you enjoy in the DF350A.

It still comes with a dual prop, louvers, injectors and water intakes.

In short: The same looks and quality, with a few smart updates and extra performance.

What marine purchases can you finance?

You can get boat finance on any new boats or Suzuki outboards, as well as jet skis and finance on used outboards or second hand boats.

What is the average term for a boat loan?

We use specialist suppliers at Wesbank Leisure Vehicle for boat finance, and their terms are actually quite flexible. You can choose any repayment term from 12 months to 24, 36, 48, all the way up to 70 months.

(Note: these are considered “shorter-term” boat loans for private individuals, commercial loans are a different category altogether.)

What is the longest term you can finance a boat?

A maximum repayment term of 70 months is the standard for this type of individual boat finance.

What about private sales and second-hand boat finance?

Yes! The best part is you can even finance second-hand and used boats here.

Can you finance outboards?

Of course! You can finance any of our Suzuki outboards. From the flagship Suzuki DF350 and the DF325, the sport SS DF200ASTL, the new DF140BG and the all-time best-selling favourite Suzuki DF100. Big or small, it doesn’t matter which outboard you want, you can get it financed – just note the minimum purchase price of R30 000 to qualify for finance.

What you need to apply for boat finance

As with any finance application, you need an ID, proof of address (bill or lease addressed to you) and proof of income (3 months’ payslips or bank statements).

When we connect you with the FSP, you’ll know well before you finally agree how much your monthly payment will be. But, if you want to get a quick rough idea of how much it will cost to finance your new boat, you can use the boat finance calculator right here.

How to finance your next boat

It’s easy! Phone or email us, or come down to the shop and get a quote on the boat/outboard you want to buy. Then, ask Joey (joey@nautitechsuzuki.com) to help you get it financed.

She’ll help you through the whole process, and you should know if it’s approved in a day or two.

Once approved, you can choose to accept or not.

And, if you’re happy with the deal and accept – Bingo! You get your boat and you go fishing!
