Located in one of the most beautiful holiday, rock-, shore- and offshore sea fishing locations on South Africa’s Eastern Cape. The Diaz Deep Sea Club offers surf-launch and a well-appointed clubhouse where fishermen and families meet. It’s also excellent for wedding and functions. Plus: It’s home of the SaltWater Masters contest for rock, surf and deep sea fishing at Kenton on Sea.

DISCOVER DIAZ DEEP SEA CLUB AT KENTON ON SEA

Diaz Deep Sea Club has been around for over 30 years. There are 50 permanent members who meet at least once a month. The clubhouse has its own fully stocked bar and the space is sizeable, it’s often used for meetings, functions and even weddings.

And you’re always welcome. Diaz Deep Sea Club encourages everyone to come around to the clubhouse on Somerset Street at Kenton on Sea. From the general public to prospective new members, you’re always welcome to come and enjoy the company – not to mention the nearby Kariega and Bushmans River views.

BOATING: FACILITIES AND SERVICES

It’s all surf launches at Diaz Deep Sea Club, as Kenton on Sea is minimally developed to retain and protect the area’s unspoilt nature. And you’d want to keep it that way. The club offers a range of services, especially in helping with licensing of boats.

BIG FISHING: SALTWATER MASTERS AT DIAZ DEEP SEA CLUB

The club is perhaps best known for hosting the annual SaltWater Masters tournament at Kenton on Sea. It’s a massive three-day Eastern Cape fishing event that includes all the different types of fishing in the area. There’s deep sea fishing, river fishing, saltwater, shore and rock fishing – all in one.

The SaltWater Masters usually takes place around March. We’ll update you soon on the dates for 2019.

WHAT TO EXPECT: BOTTOM FISH SPECIES AT KENTON ON SEA

We spoke to the club chair and members, and they agree that Kenton is excellent for bottom fishing. Apart from the river and shore fishing in the area, the most coveted deep sea saltwater fish around here are cob, geelbek, yellowtail and red species.

BEST FISHING SPOTS AROUND KENTON ON SEA

From Diaz Deep Sea Club, you’ll want to head in the direction of Port Elizabeth. This takes you into the general Algoa Bay area – yes, Diaz is about an hour and a half drive from Port Elizabeth club PEDSAC. And from here you can easily fish Bird Island in Algoa Bay.

At Bird Island, you can expect to catch all big bottom fish species. But the main game for Diaz Deep Sea Club members here is the yellowtail.
