FISHING THE YZERFONTEIN YELLOWTAIL CHALLENGE

“Normally, we aim for a 7 o-clock start,” says club chairman Theunis. “But we know that this time of year especially, it can still be dark out at that time. So we’re not going to give an official start time beforehand, we’ll keep safety in consideration and decide on a mass start on the day, based on conditions.”

And to further compensate for light conditions and angler safety, Theunis says that lines-up will be around 15:00 on Saturday, to make sure everyone has enough time to get back safely. You can download a copy of the competition rules here.

As the comp name suggests, yellowtail is the main species you’ll be going after. And there are loads of awesome prizes at this year’s comp.

PRIZES UP FOR GRABS

Probably the most coveted prize everyone will want to go after is the overall heaviest yellowtail catch. That one’s worth R20 000 in cash and all the bragging right for a whole year – just ask previous winners.
