New: What to Expect at the False Bay Inshore Classic

Five species, the club’s 50th birthday celebration and loads of prizes and fun for the whole family. The False Bay Inshore Classic fishing competition is back this year

Gordon’s Bay Boat Angling Club turns 50 this year. And to mark it, they’ve pulled out all the stops to bring back the False Bay Inshore Classic (last seen two years ago). Starting 2 November, it promises to not only be a good bottom fishing competition but also a lot of fun for the whole family.

Here’s what to expect.

FIVE FISH SPECIES & LOADS OF PRIZES

* Yellowtail
* Snoek
* Red roman
* Katonkel
* Kabeljou

“There are big prizes for the biggest three fish in each category,” says Albert Burger of Gordon’s Bay Boat Angling Club, “to the tune of R5000 for the biggest, then R2000 and R1000.

“But of course False Bay is well known for delivering good tuna, so there are special prizes for unique catches like longfin and yellowfin, too.”

OPEN COMP: ENTRY IS R350

“The False Bay Inshore Classic used to be a club comp, but we’ve opened it up to everyone – any angler from any club can enter and partake,” says Albert.

Entry is just R350. And already there are 13 boats from Gordon’s Bay alone, with another 15 expected from Villiersdorp, Struisbaai, Overberg, Cape Boat and Ski-Boat, and all over the region. The comp runs 2–4 November 2018.

What’s really attractive is the easy entry price and the fact that the Gordon’s Bay club provides security for all boats at the Harbour Island club premises. Guys can just pull in and leave their boats overnight with peace of mind that a professional security company (owned by one of the club members) is on the job.

And, of course, it doesn’t hurt that there’s a big party for the whole weekend at the club.

FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

It’s Gordon’s Bay Boat Angling Club’s 50th birthday. So, for the entire duration of the False Bay Inshore Classic fishing competition, there will be food, live music and an open invitation to everyone to come and enjoy yourself at the clubhouse.

From Friday 2 November to Sunday 4 November, the club will host steak and rib nights. Anglers entered in the comp eat for free. But they’re encouraged to bring the family along. Non-entrants pay only R100 for steak and ribs. Plus there’s live music and loads of snack and drinks and even some place to braai for those who feel like it.

“Got a boat? Bring the family,” Albert concludes.
