Your Instant Trolling Motor: Suzuki Troll Mode
WATCH: Fine-tuned, consistent speed control at low rpm for boat trolling means you don’t need a trolling motor – all Suzukis come with built-in Troll Mode
Did you know that as of 2012 all Suzuki outboards over 40hp come with built-in troll mode? The trolling function is already built into the motor’s ECU (Engine Control Unit) and the switches and controls are easily installed anywhere you like. This means you don’t need a separate trolling motor, just have Nauti-Tech Suzuki connect Troll Mode and place the controls for you.
BENEFITS OF TROLLING
You already know the concept of trolling, it’s switching the engine to low rpm cruising speed when your lines are in the water. Depending on which species you’re going after, you’ll focus on different depths and use specific lures. But the key feature here is having ultra-fine control over the exact speed of your boat – what trolling motors in the past were built for – which is something that Suzuki engines with troll mode now do automatically.
We found this video of a US river boat fisherman that shows Suzuki’s Troll Mode in detail:

This freshwater fisherman is trolling what looks like a wide river, using a Suzuki with the troll mode controls installed onto a long-handle tiller (seems to be a preference in freshwater fishing in that part of the world). And it gives him fine control over the boat’s speed in the water.
Just how fine control? This second video shows more closely what the control setup on an offshore ski-boat will look like and how it functions:

What’s happening here is when the guy engages Troll Mode, he gets total control of the engine’s low rpm speed. Clicking “up” or “down” on the switch lets you adjust the motor speed at intervals of 50rpm. Giving complete and very useful control and consistency when trolling.
Suzuki Troll Mode gives you fine control over engine speed from idle all the way up 1200rpm. If you increase the speed with the throttle with Troll Mode active, it’ll stay active up to 3000rpm. And what’s really cool is that if you don’t exceed 3000rpm and let go of the throttle, the system automatically returns to your original trolling speed.
You honestly don’t need a separate trolling motor anymore, whether you’re fishing offshore or on freshwater, with Suzuki Troll Mode.
HOW TO GET TROLL MODE INSTALLED
If you don’t have it already, note that all Suzuki Lean Burn engines made after 2012 have the functionality already built in. You can just contact us and have the controls installed.
For older engines, this is a really cool functionality. And if you’ve been considering getting your boat repowered, here’s a great reason to contact us and get a quote on new engines. There are loads of benefits to going with Suzuki motors – not the least of which is that they are generally lighter, more compact and yet deliver the same if not more power than other engines in their class.
